LET APPLE CHANGE YOUR LIFE

WELCOME TO APPLE AT BOLTON COURT

At the top of the page have added the Magical Murphy Search Engine, powered by Google. Use this to find your way around our sites

THE APPLE STORE

The really big news is that we have been approved as an Affiliate site which means that we now get a small commission if you visit the Apple Online Store, via this site, and make a purchase. This is a non-profit site but as it is expensive to run every bit of revenue (no matter how small) is very much appreciated. The bad news is that the Apple Store that we are associated with will only ship to address within the US and Canada.

We have just added a new feature which is a bit of fun to play with. It is a product search engine which allows to search across a number of suppliers for any produce that you may be interested in. Even if you are not interested in buying online it gives you some idea as to to price the item in question is available at. Try "ipod" and see what results you get.

Bolton Court may appear to be a strange name for a website dedicated to Apple but originally the site was used for test purposes so the domain name was not important.

"Apple At Bolton Court" is operated on a not-for profit basis  by Infomatique and we are currently working on a number of projects including the "Streets Of Dublin", "Magical Murphy" and Infomatique. We also offer a frequently updated journal which includes the latest Apple news and rumors. If you have any interest in Dublin City (Ireland) we have a very large collection of photographs hosted by FLICKR. We also operate two groups dedicated to the Sigma SD14 DSLR camera and the DP1 high quality compact camera (not yet on sale).

Up until about two years ago Infomatique used bog standard PCs but as we developed an interest in Digital Photography and Video we became very frustrated so we decided to investigate the possibility of switching to the Apple Mac. We purchased a top end Power Mac a few weeks before we discovered that Apple were planning to switch to Intel. Initially we were a little bit annoyed but we managed to obtain a pre-production version of the new Mac with an Intel inside and we later purchase an Intel based IMAC.

At the beginning of 2007 we discovered that we could switch all our applications over the a Mac Pro by using Virtual Machine Options provided by VMWARE and Parallels ... we are using both products. We also decided to purchase Adobe CS3.

As soon as the 8 Core Mac Pro became available we purchased one and we have now migrated completely to Apple.

It should be noted that while we did purchase Dreamweaver CS3 we actually used Sandvox to produce this particular website.

Recently we upgraded to Leopard and we also purchased Microsoft Expression Web (a non-mac product but it runs perfectly under Parallels and VMWARE Fusion)

Mac OS X version 10.5 "Leopard"

We got our hands on this (and the server version) the day it was released and managed to upgrade on our Intel based machines without any problems. Updating our G5 Powermac was a disaster but as everything was duplicated on another machine we just wiped everything and did a fresh install.

To be honest, we have not seen any real improvement in speed or overall performance. One thing that we have noticed is that Microsoft Entourage is freezing on a regular basis and when it does it causes both Safari and Firefox to lose access to the Web (this did not happen prior to upgrading).

APPLE - SOME BACKGROUND INFO

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL, LSE: ACP, FWB: APC) (formerly Apple Computer, Inc.) is an American multinational corporation with a focus on designing and manufacturing consumer electronics and closely-related software products.

Headquartered in Cupertino, California, Apple develops, sells, and supports a series of personal computers, portable media players, computer software, and computer hardware accessories; Apple is also currently involved in the creation of new technology concepts, such as the iPhone, Apple TV, and many features of its new, upcoming operating system, Mac OS X "Leopard".

Apple also operates an online store for hardware and software purchases, as well as the iTunes Store, a comprehensive offering of digital downloadable music, audiobooks, games, music videos, TV shows, and movies. The company's best-known hardware products include the Macintosh line of personal computers and related peripherals, the iPod line of portable media players, and the iPhone.

Apple's best known software products include the Mac OS operating system and the iLife software suite, a bundle of integrated amateur creative software products. (Both Mac OS and iLife are included on all Macs sold.) Additionally, Apple is also a major provider of professional (as well as "prosumer") audio- and film-industry software products. Apple's professional and "prosumer" applications, which run primarily on Mac computers, include Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Final Cut Studio, and related industry tools.

Apple had worldwide annual sales in its fiscal year 2006 (ending September 30, 2006) of US$19.3 billion. The company, incorporated January 3, 1977, was known as "Apple Computer, Inc." for its first 30 years. On January 9, 2007, the company dropped "Computer" from its corporate name to reflect that Apple, once best known for its computer products, now offers a broader array of consumer electronics products.

The name change followed Apple's announcement of its new iPhone smartphone and Apple TV digital video system and is representative of the company's ongoing expansion into the consumer electronics market in addition to its traditional focus on personal computers.

Apple also operates 183 (as of June 2007) retail stores in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and Italy.[6] The stores carry most of Apple's products as well as many third-party products and offer on-site support and repair for Apple hardware and software. Apple employs over 20,000 permanent and temporary workers worldwide.

For a variety of reasons, ranging from its philosophy of comprehensive aesthetic design to its countercultural, even indie roots, as well as their advertising campaigns, Apple has engendered a distinct reputation in the consumer electronics industry and has cultivated a customer base that is unusually devoted to the company and its brand.
